Earn three category one Continuing Forestry Education credits when you participate in this series of free webinars coming in May.
Join Derrick Reish, Steve Colburn and Mark Isley for the first in a three-part series of webinars hosted by LaserTech.
GIS / Forestry Laser Mapping on Wednesday, May 23 at 9:00 AM (MST) will go into depth about laser and compass measurement technology. Learn how easy it can be to integrate mapping lasers with popular field data collection software. From establishing a reference point to transferring your collected data into a GIS, this series covers it all.
Then on Thursday, May 31 at 9:00 AM (MST) attend the second session in the series Tree Hypsometry Vegetation.
Go into depth about laser measurements and modes, including a 3-step height and 2-step missing line routine. Discover right-of-way tree assessments and maintenance in regards to danger tree and vegetation clearances. Learn how taking ground measurements can not only be safe, but extremely efficient using the latest in laser technology.
Finally on Tuesday, June 19 at 9:00 AM (MST) participate in the third webinar Timber Cruising In/Out Sampling & Diameters.
This webinar will go into depth about how to take tree heights and percent slope measurements as well as performing In/Out determination of borderline trees using the BAF factor. Learn how to make accurate diameter measurements and easily determine heights at which specific diameters occurs.
Making Forest Inventory Faster, More Accurate and More Usable
Wednesday, June 13
Presenter: Mark Milligan, F4-Tech President
The use of GPS and GIS in forest inventory is becoming the standard. It offers many advantages in production, data quality and analysis support. However, the implementation of GIS and GPS tools vary widely from the use of recreation grade GPS units to survey grade equipment. This has caused numerous challenges in standardization of data, data completeness, and loading of data into back end databases. To better deal with this, F4 Tech has developed both software and hardware for the next generation of forest inventory management. The new set of tools offers tighter, flexible data capture with simplified movement of data from mobile device to geodatabase. A new hardware device by F4Devices includes the ability to capture distance and height within a field data collector like never before. And F4 Tech’s SilvAssist provides foresters powerful ways to manage, report and analyze inventory data all within the ArcGIS interface. This generation of forest inventory data management more easily accommodates collection and management of forest inventory data and is especially useful for organizations which have specific business rules and data as part of their inventories.
